YOUR GRAVE IS READY!

Standard Comics was the comic book imprint of Pines Publications, formed by Ned Pines in 1939. Standard was the parent company of two other Pines comics imprints, Better Publications and Nedor Publications.

The comic seen here today, THE UNSEEN, is listed in the indicia as being published by yet another company, Visual Editions, Inc.

Here's a full issue of fearsome frolics featuring such delightful tales as a boy raised by wolves who can't keep his bloodlust under control when he is adopted into normal life, an exterminator who has other ideas about rats besides killing them and a painting that foreshadows a man's doom. Plus, plenty of mayhem, shrunken heads. the Mexican spirit-woman La Llorna and more.

DYING FOR HIS ART

Mark Glass is so obsessed with painting his true love, Lois, that he declares he'll come back from the dead as he perishes from a fire in his studio. True to his word, he returns from the grave to finish his work. The problem is, he's been burned to a crisp which has a deleterious affect on Lois's continued affection.

"Mission From the Grave" appeared in ADVENTURES INTO DARKNESS #11 (Standard Comics, September 1953) illustrated by Mike Sekowsky.

TODAY'S RED PLATE SPECIAL

Wha? Cannibalism again? Well, it is one of mankind's greatest taboos, and what better place to exploit it than in a horror comic! This EC-inspired story, "The Cannibal!", is from OUT OF THE SHADOWS #13 (Pines/Standard Comics, May 1954) with a script by Carl Wessler, an unknown penciler and inks possibly by Rocco "Rocke" Mastroserio.
