One of the most unique and stylistic artists to draw horror comics was Matt Fox. Generally mentioned is his work on covers and interiors of Youthful's CHILLING TALES, his output was much greater at Atlas/Marvel where a good part of his assignments were inking over Larry Lieber's science-fiction stories.
Fox got his start in the pulp magazines and some of his best work was seen on the covers and interiors of the legendary WEIRD TALES (see below).
His art, I believe, is unjustly panned by Robert Weinberg in his book, "The Weird Tales Story" (Pulp Hero Press, 2021), asserting that because there where high returns on particular titles, it was a result of Fox's covers.
A copy of CHILLING TALES #13 (December 1952) with a cover and interior story by Matt Fox is for sale on this site HERE.

His art put the "weird" into Weird Tales for sure. Great gallery.
ReplyDeleteYes, he did. Along with Lee Brown Coye and Boris Dolgov, I'd say.
